Alternatives to Black Friday Shopping

November 21st, 2013

Each year, it’s seems that the shopping phenomenon called Black Friday grows in popularity. Heck, some stores are even opening on Thanksgiving this year! For me, however, the day after Thanksgiving is about relaxing and spending time with the family. So if you want to avoid the shopping madness the day after Thanksgiving and spend a little more time with your family, here are some fun and easy Black Friday alternatives.

Shop Online

If you want to buy presents for your family and friends but you don’t want to compete with the throngs of people in retail shops, go online. There are also plenty of amazing sales on the web if you know where to look for them, and you don’t even have to go outside!

Do Something with the Décor

It’s the day after Thanksgiving, so leave the bigger chores for another day! However, if you really want to do something around the house, you can start by taking down your Thanksgiving decorations. You can also switch out the accessories in your living room and make the space more cheery for the holidays. You can even start putting up your Christmas tree. There are plenty of things you can do around the house without going out and joining in on the Black Friday craze.

Go Bowling

I love bowling because it’s an activity that everyone in the family can do! The day after Thanksgiving, gather up the kids in their jackets and mittens and take them to the bowling alley for some all-day fun.

Watch Movies

After days of prepping for Thanksgiving, we love to hit the movie theater. I’ll be honest: we’ve been known to see multiple movies back to back on Black Friday. We can’t wait to check out holiday blockbusters, and there always seems to be a handful of family-friendly films out for the holiday season. So, ply yourself with plenty of popcorn and candy for a wonderful time with your kids!

Do Outdoor Activities

Getting out and being active is a great idea for a Black Friday alternative activity! Go on a picnic at the local park with the entire family (just be sure to bring jackets and hats), or go on an easy day hike with the kids to get your blood going. You can also have a bike ride around the neighborhood and enjoy the winter air for a bit before heading back home.

Enjoy the day after Thanksgiving with these fun and relaxing Black Friday alternative activities! If you have more ideas on how to spend Black Friday without going to retail shops, share them in the comments section below.
